As an award-winning Perth wedding photographer, I’m lucky enough to frequently capture weddings at Aloft Hotel. But I’m getting ahead of myself. I’ll get back to all the reasons why I love being an Aloft Hotel wedding photographer later. Let’s start at the beginning of Sofia and Danny’s day.
The Ceremony: St Mary’s Leederville Church
The wedding ceremony was held at St Mary’s Leedverville church. Danny studied next door at Aranmore Catholic College for 12 years, which is where he met his closest friends who were groomsmen on the day. So, the area holds special memories for them.
Sofia looked absolutely stunning in a custom-made dress made in Colombia. A present from her mum, it perfectly skimmed Sofia’s petite figure giving her the most amazing silhouette in all of my images of her. Sofia’s dress was complemented with perfect make up by XU Makeup and her long hair was glamorously styled by Kokoblaqcoiffeur. Her bouquet contained orchids as a nod to her Colombian heritage.
Danny looked uber smart in a white tuxedo with his grooms’ party wearing traditional black tie.
The Entrance
Sofia was walked down the aisle by her mum, something that I know meant the world to both of them. St. Leedverville Church is a large and light church, with a rich history that remains to this day a hub for the local community. Its light walls and ornate interiors make it ideal for a beautiful wedding ceremony.
Now, it’s always great to work with other professionals in the wedding industry and this was certainly the case working with Emotion Videography who were there to capture the wedding film.
After a lovely ceremony that included live music by singer Febrey , I took the chance to capture some stunning images of Sofia, Danny and their wedding party outside the church before we all headed to Aloft Hotel for the wedding reception.
Great, now I get to talk more about why I love capturing Aloft Hotel wedding photography. It’s because this uber modern hotel hosts weddings on its utterly unique and impressive rooftop ballroom that has spectacular views over the Swan River. Sunsets at Aloft Hotel are especially stunning when enjoyed from their beautiful terrace.
Sofia and Danny’s vision for their day was romantic and elegant so they chose white, pink and gold for the colour scheme. Wedding planners Amara weddings & Events and Aloft Hotel’s brilliant in-house wedding co-ordinator Liam Pearson both worked tirelessly delivering on that vision for Sofia and Danny and the results spoke for themselves.
Now… The Party!
The cake looked delicious, and it was an original idea to have a smaller wedding cake and then a host of mini cakes as well. Cakes were the clever creation of Claire at Sukar. When it came to evening celebrations, Sofia and Danny were leaving nothing to chance and hired go gabz DJ’s who have a clever app you can use to create your perfect playlist that takes into account breaks for speeches and food etc. For live entertainment, there was Latin Salsa Dancers from Frenesi Latin Salsa Company who really brought a Colombian vibe perfect for a wedding celebration. They started with a performance but then got all guests involved in a conga and limbo dancing. It was like a Colombian wedding reception and so perfectly suited to my style of documentary wedding photography. Another hit at the evening party was the photobooth (who doesn’t love a photobooth) Sofia and Danny cleverly used the photos to create a guest book, where guests added a personal message to the photos before sticking them in a book.
With the party in full swing, it was time for me to take my leave but before going I wanted the perfect last image. And I chose to take one of Sofia and Danny on rooftop ballrooms dancefloor, embracing in front of the large LED letters AMOR (Spanish for love!) courtesy of Vintage Letters & Co. It was the perfect image to close the story of their elegant, romantic and fun wedding day.
