Perth Engagement and pre wedding photographer

I love my job as a Perth engagement and pre-wedding photographer. Engagement photography is increasing in popularity and I can’t recommend it enough.

There are lots of reasons why couples choose to have engagement and pre-wedding photography. Firstly, they are a great way for you to meet your photographer before your wedding day and get some amazing images of you both together.

Many of my couples go on to use the images from their engagement and pre-wedding photoshoots in their wedding stationery.

Secondly, lots of people tell me they feel awkward in front of the camera. Let’s face it, most of the time we don’t live celebrity lifestyles getting photographed all the time, so having our photograph taken can make us feel embarrassed, shy or awkward.

So, an engagement and pre wedding photography session is the perfect time to address these concerns.

The session will help you to feel comfortable in front of the camera so when your wedding day arrives you will feel much more relaxed. As an experienced Perth engagement and pre wedding photographer I bring with me a wealth of experience. I can give you useful hints and tips on how to relax in front of the camera.

These photoshoots should be fun. Especially if you choose somewhere that has meaning like the place where you had your first date, a favourite cafe/bar or your favourite place to visit on the weekend. There are no rules for these photo sessions, the most important thing is to enjoy yourselves.

It’s all about the feeling you leave your clients with.

My husband and I were incredibly blessed to get our pre-wedding shots done by Jacob. Throughout the entire process, Jacob made us feel like he was interested to know us as individuals and always went the extra mile whenever we asked for his insights & tips on locations, timings and even what to wear for better photos. We're definitely not naturals in front of the camera but he was somehow able to make us relax & feel at ease, and the result of that was gorgeous, natural photos that we absolutely loved! Some of the pics were printed onto glass blocks that we display around the house 🙂 Thanks again Jacob!

What To Wear

A lot of my clients tell me that they don’t know what to wear for their engagement shoot. And my advice to them is always to dress in a way that accurately represents who you are as a couple. Of course, you want to look your best version of you, but by choosing clothes that reflect who you will result in you relaxing and this creates more authentic images.

Wear clothes that complement each other. Pastels, cool colours and neutral tones are a good idea and avoid any patterns that are too busy as they may distract the eye away from the two of you. If you want a wear a statement colour maybe limit it to an accessory. I would also recommend that you avoid being too ‘on trend’ with your fashion as this runs the risk of making the photos look dated in future. Think classic and timeless and you can’t go wrong. Also, give some thought to the season, the location and the time of day, and the dress accordingly. If you want to wear killer heels bring some flats for walking in between shots. For inspiration you can always look back through old photos of the two of you and see how you are dressed in the ones you like best.

And lastly, no more than two outfits.  Keep things simple.  Remember, you’ll have endless photos of the two of you looking amazing on your wedding day.  These photographs are to reflect who you are as a couple on all the other days.

Creative Perth engagement and pre-wedding photography

As a Perth engagement and pre wedding photographer I know all the best locations for the perfect engagement and pre-wedding photoshoots. I also know the time of the tides at the beaches, the time the sunsets and rises, precisely when the best locations have the fewest tourists. Well, it is my job to know this stuff! I can even help you choose your outfits for your engagement session.

For adventure seekers there’s Bells Rapids, a walk bridge that spans the Swan River over the white-water rapids, that has beautiful scenery, fauna and the odd sighting of grey kangaroos. Or the seaside town of Lancelin, a small fishing and tourist town just 127 km north of Perth. It has beautiful beaches with views of the Indian Ocean. The perfect setting for a romantic engagement and pre-wedding photoshoot.

Margaret River is also a great location for a Perth engagement and pre-wedding photoshoot. This small town stretches between two lighthouses and is awash with craft breweries, wineries and boutiques. So, you can really make a day/weekend of it. It also has stunning beaches great for surfing, as well as limestone caves and sea cliffs that make amazing backdrops in all of my images.

The vibrant town of Balingup makes a fantastic location for Perth engagement and pre-wedding photography. The clean air and the alluring smell of the eucalyptus forest are invigorating. Add to that Balingup’s orchards, vineyards and farmland and you have everything you need for the perfect engagement and pre-wedding photoshoot. Stay overnight in Balingup and you’ll hear a night chorus of singing frogs, kookaburras and cockatoos.

My photographic style is always natural and authentic as I always want my couples to have fun and just forget about the camera. This approach allows me to capture my couples as they actually are, interacting with each other in an effortless and natural way. Nothing too posed or forced, but always looking their absolute best!
