As an award winning Perth wedding photographer I’m lucky enough to capture weddings at different Perth wedding venues each weekend.

My advice for finding your perfect wedding venue is to speak to your wedding planner if you have one.  A wedding planner will be familiar with all of the wedding venues in your chosen area.  Another good idea is to think about the vision and aesthetics of your wedding.  Choose a venue that conveys the ambience and look you want to create.  You will also need to think about your guest list.  Is your chosen venue child friendly? Is it suitable for guests with poor mobility? And it goes without saying that you should always keep sight of your budget.  Hotels with in-house catering will charge per plate for food, where as a barn venue offering more casual food may not.  Also, look at midweek or winter wedding deals as you can often get the same wedding at a reduced rate.  Your biggest expense will be your venue, so it’s a good idea to nail it down early so you can see how you want to prioritise the rest of your budget.

Here are some of my favourite venues.

1. COMO The Treasury

If modern hi-end luxury is what you’re looking for then you should definitely check out or check in to COMO the Treasury.  This contemporary hotel is housed in one of Perth’s grand 19th century state buildings.  It has been thoughtfully and meticulously restored and re-imagined into a truly stunning wedding venue with new and old blending seamlessly.

When I document weddings at COMO the Treasury, I always feel so relaxed because I know I’m in safe hands.  These guys really know what they’re doing and can help you plan every aspect of your wedding from choosing invitations to finding the perfect wedding band.  Nothing is ever too much trouble; they’re always friendly and helpful.

COMO The Treasury have a number of beautiful spaces both inside and out allowing you to create your perfect wedding whether it be as small and intimate, a large lavish affair and just about everything in between.

Oh, I must mention their award-winning COMO Shambhala Wellness Centre and Spa.  I bet you can picture you and your bride squad in there!

2. Brookleigh Estate

Another of my favourite Perth wedding venues that I always love returning to capture weddings at is Brookleigh Estate.  This French chateau inspired equestrian property is a stunning wedding venue. Surrounded by vineyards and renowned for its beautiful gardens it offers six different spaces for your wedding ceremony and reception.

So, whether you choose an outdoor ceremony at the lakeside, a rustic ceremony in the stables, an intimate and stylish outdoor celebration in the courtyard, a grand wedding in the chateau, a large celebration under a marquee on the lawn or a magical reception party under twinkling lights in the secret garden.  You are guaranteed a simply beautiful wedding.

When I document wedding photography at Brookleigh Estate, I always love whisking my couples away for a few minutes to capture some gorgeous portrait images of them set against the epic sunset at this amazing venue.  As well as getting fantastic documentary style images of my couples and their guests as they happily mingle and relax in this most beautiful of settings.

3. Mandoon Estate

Mandoon Estate weddings are always a pleasure to shoot.  This historic wedding venue is located in the pretty suburb of Caversham in the Swan Valley.  Dating back to the 1840’s it marked the origin of the Swan Valley colony. It is also an award-winning winery, brewery and restaurant meaning that your guests will be well fed and watered.

Whether you choose to enjoy drinks on the deck overlooking the river, having a beautiful outdoor ceremony on the lawn, or partying the night away in their purpose-built function suite with ceiling to floor windows that let you enjoy spectacular views of the river and flood the space with natural light (us Perth wedding photographers love any additional natural light!) you are guaranteed a wonderful wedding experience.

One of the many things I love about weddings at Mandoon Estate, is that it manages to be laid back and elegant and classy at the same time, and relaxed guests in beautiful locations are the ingredients I need to create beautiful Perth wedding photography.

4. Sandalford Winery

Sandaford Winery is one of my favourite Perth wedding venues. It is a perfect wedding location especially for foodie couples who know their Merlots from their Malbecs.  Historically rich, with multi-award-winning wines and restaurant, Sandaford Winery hosts lavish wedding receptions in luxurious surroundings.

Sandaford Winery has several amazing spaces for your wedding ceremony and reception.  Such as the lavish Oak Room, with its walls lined with wine barrels and draped ceiling, it makes an amazing space.  The Durack Room is for smaller weddings and has a balcony overlooking the river.  Or the charming and atmospheric underground cellar which can host up to 250 guests.  The Estate Room which seats up to 350 guests and has wood panelled walls.  For outdoor ceremonies you can choose from the Chenin Lawn with its rustic arbour or the immaculate Merlot Lawn.  All of these varying options allowing couples to enjoy their wedding done their way inside or out and regardless of size.

When I shoot wedding photography at Sandaford Winery, I love taking my couples on a mini photoshoot in the vineyards just before the sunsets.  The low-level sunshine glistening through the vines creates a wonderfully romantic setting for great portrait images that my couples are always thrilled with.

5. Caversham House

The last of the Perth wedding venues I want to talk about is Caversham House.  Ask any Perth wedding photographer and then will tell you that getting to document weddings at Caversham House is always a dream booking.

Built in 1835, Caversham House is an elegant wedding venue that has been renovated into a luxurious blend of French and contemporary styles.  They specialise in outdoor wedding ceremonies with three options on offer of the Garden House lawn, The Colonnade or The Hidden Gardens.

For wedding receptions, you can enjoy a celebration in a luxury marquee on the lawn, both offering capacity for up to 600 guests, s.  So, it’s an ideal wedding venue for larger and Asian weddings.  For more intimate celebrations, the Garden House on the main lawn is ideal.

When I shoot wedding photography at Caversham House, I love taking my around the beautiful gardens, always stopping to get images on the majestic garden staircase and their famous four-storey waterfall.
