The Proposal
On the morning of August 12, 2023, Michael popped the question. Using his upcoming birthday as an excuse, he convinced Jaymie to go to the park with their pup, Kenji. Despite Jaymie’s insistence on retrieving her water bottle from work and her choice of heels, Michael managed to get her to the Nedlands Foreshore. There, in their usual spot, Kenji ran back and forth between them. On one of the runs, Michael hid behind a tree with Kenji. Moments later, Kenji emerged in a tiny tuxedo, followed by Michael, who got down on one knee. Spoiler alert: she said yes!
The Wedding at The Ritz Carlton
Jaymie and Michael tied the knot on April 27, 2024, at The Ritz Carlton. After their engagement in August 2023, they wasted no time planning their perfect day. They chose The Ritz Carlton for both the ceremony and reception because they wanted an indoor venue to avoid any weather issues and were thrilled to find out their pup, Kenji, could join them. They knew the food would be top-notch after attending Jaymie’s cousin’s wedding there, which was crucial for these two foodies.
Jaymie & Michael kept it simple with a black and white color scheme, aiming for a classic, timeless look. The ceremony was predominantly white, creating a serene and pure atmosphere, while the reception added black accents for a more festive feel. The candle-lit reception added a magical touch, bringing their vision to life better than they ever imagined.
Jaymie looked stunning in a strapless A-line dress with a minimalist corset and pockets, which she found at her third fitting. Her bouquet featured her favorite flowers: baby’s breath, roses, and orchids, arranged beautifully by Lilliflora. Food was a highlight of the day, with Jaymie and Michael ensuring their guests were well-fed. Post-ceremony, guests enjoyed a live culinary station featuring peking duck. Canapés included cold smoked salmon, tempura rock oyster, and beef striploin. The reception started with an amuse-bouche, followed by a choice of confit duck leg or blue swimmer crab for entrees, and alternating southwest lamb and exotic mushroom risotto for mains. The meal ended with a blueberry cake and cashew nut ice cream for dessert, plus a selection of petit fours.
After several tastings, they chose The Honeycake over traditional wedding cakes. They had a round honey cake for cutting and individually boxed honey cakes for guests to take home, ensuring no cake went to waste.
The Ceremony
Their wedding ceremony featured Dolce Ensembles, a trio of violin, cello, and harp, playing classical pieces. The reception had DJ Cuan from Anomaly DJ, who kept the dance floor packed with his unique remixes and crowd-pleasing tunes. The dance floor was never empty, and everyone danced until midnight.
Kenji, their beloved pup, was the ring bearer, and Jaymie’s brother served as her “bridesman.” Instead of table numbers, they used pet names from their childhood and current pets, which added an emotional touch for their guests. They also honored all the married couples with a dance game, celebrating the longest-married couple in attendance.
Jaymie and Michael’s Ritz Carlton wedding was a beautiful blend of love, elegance, and unforgettable moments. Their story and their day are a testament to the magic that happens when everything falls into place perfectly.
In Conclusion
It was such a fun and beautiful wedding to capture. I think it’s fair I leave the last words to Jaymie & Michael. Here’s what they had to say about me:
“We feel so lucky to have had Jacob as our photographer and would highly recommend Jacob Gordon Photography. We are pretty awkward in front of photos but Jacob made it all so easy and fun. We also felt really comfortable with Jacob as a person and found him easy to get along with, so we were completely ourselves the whole time and not two little awkward turtles.
Our wedding day flew by and we are so grateful for Jacob and his team for capturing all of the little special moments for us to remember forever – like our dads shaking hands, Michael dropping the wedding band, the tears shed by all the different guests, the different moves on the dance floor, our first kiss, funny moments during the ceremony and even all of the tiniest details which we would probably forget down the line (like our bridal suite’s room number and Kenji’s treats!).
The photos all turned out incredible and there were some really cool creative shots (will definitely be framing a lot of them!). Above all, every time we looked through the photos, we felt as though we were transported back to that day and re-living it all over again. Jacob gave us tangible memories that we will cherish forever.”
